Numbers and Lies

Stats rarely are a good measure how how a hitter is actually hitting, especially in small sample sizes.
Case in point. My current Friday night stats (in 3 games)

 5 for 6 (.833 avg.), 3 runs scored, 1 XBH,  1 RBI, 1.000 Slg %, 0 BB, 1.3 runs produced per game.

The numbers that jump out at me, compared to what I would call typical, are the low number of walks, runs and RBI's.

In 3 games I would expect my line to look more like this

4-6, 5 runs scored, 1 XBH, 3 RBI's, 2 BB

Still in the last few games the number have consistently improved and the power is coming back. I have been driving the ball better thanks to some minor mechanical adjustments. Now to just work on the fielding stats....

Adjustments

Game 1 of many for 2012 was, well lackluster on my part. As a team it was a 21-11 loss.
But for my part I couldn't help but feel, well... helpless.
My vision when I step up to bat is twofold 1) make the pitcher throw me a pitch I want to hit and 2) Execute what needs to be done in that situation.
I feel that being 1-2 with a run scored is anything but that.

AB 1: I did what I almost never do. Bases juiced, 2 down. The first pitch looked decent, and judging by what others were getting, I may not see another like it. Despite every instinct telling me to "Take", I connected, Line shot back up the middle....Right into the SS who had shifted to cover the middle. Inning over. Why is this a failure for me? I should have read the shift better and not hit that pitch.

AB 2: I do better in my goals, taking the first 3 to work a 2-1 count. My advantage. But again I do the unthinkable. The 2-1 pitch was low, but I swing anyway. weak grounder to first. but a misplay and bad communication allow me to reach and later score.

The final result is that I am picking bad pitches in bad counts. This isn't my game. I need to fix that

Tick Tock...

As we sit on the edge of a new season we have all begun the work to get back into game ready shape.

The batting cages, running, practice and yes even a diet have been in the cards for the Green Machine. And do I feel ready? Physically, Not yet. Mentally, Yes.

The explanation of that is simple. My body is not even close to ready yet. Even mile runs are hell on the joints. So lets hope I don't hit too many into the gaps.... The cages have proven the late game at bats may take their toll. after about 85 of 100 pitches last trip, The bat speed had defiantly fallen off. And the mechanics were slightly less than the consistency I want out of them.

But damned if I don't want to be out there playing!
